Sarah Holsapple's Cancer Journey

Cedar Rapids, IA

Story

Back in April, an abnormal mammogram led to further testing, including an ultrasound and five biopsies. Those results showed atypical cells, and I was referred to a surgical oncologist to schedule surgery. After a full and busy summer, I had surgery last Wednesday October 29th. On Thursday, we received the results confirming that it was breast cancer. The good news is that the entire tumor and surrounding tissue were removed, and the margins were clear. This week, we met with my medical team to go over the next steps. I’ll be working with both a surgical oncologist, medical oncologist, and a radiation specialist to guide my treatment plan. At this point, the plan includes: *5-6 weeks of daily radiation treatments (weekends off) *Possible other treatments/ Follow-up scans and tests to ensure everything remains clear *Hormone therapy (possible) for approximately 5-7 years as a preventative measure There’s a lot to process, but I’m in good spirits, deeply grateful, and at peace - trusting that God has gone before us in every way.

Special Notes

🌷 About Sarah Welcome, friends and family - thank you so much for visiting my GiveInKind page and walking alongside me in this season. Earlier this year, an abnormal mammogram led to a series of tests and biopsies that showed atypical cells. I recently had surgery to remove that area, and during the procedure, my surgical oncologist discovered a tumor that turned out to be breast cancer (ductal carcinoma). By God’s incredible grace, the tumor was removed completely with clear margins and no spread - truly a miracle and a reminder of His faithfulness and perfect timing. In the days ahead, I’ll begin treatments and will also be navigating other options as a preventative measure. I’m trusting the Lord to guide every step and grateful for the amazing medical team surrounding me. This page will serve as a space to share updates, prayer requests, and ways you can support me through treatment and recovery. Your prayers, encouragement, and love mean more than I can ever express. If you’d like to read more about this journey and ways to support, please follow my page here for updates and regular posts. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for lifting me up in prayer and walking this road with me. I’m trusting Jesus every step of the way and truly feel His presence - and yours - surrounding me. 💖🙏 “He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.” — Psalm 91:4 _______________________________ 💌 Other Ways to Support Many of you have asked how you can support me in this season, and I am so humbled by that love and generosity. Due to this new diagnosis, and after years of managing autoimmune issues, I’ve had to make some major lifestyle and health changes - especially when it comes to food and my environment. I’m currently working to remove toxic products from our home to reduce hormone disruptors and support my healing. This process can be quite costly, and I’m making these changes slowly and intentionally. Amazon gift cards would be a huge help as I replace household items, purchase clean products, and gather supplies needed for upcoming treatments. Additionally, gift cards to favorite restaurants or grocery stores are also wonderful ways to lighten the load during treatment. We deeply appreciate meals, but due to the strict dietary restrictions I follow gluten-free, dairy-free, and sugar-free, it can be difficult to use standard meal delivery. These gift cards allow us to purchase what fits within my diet while still giving us a little extra flexibility and ease during busy treatment weeks. Please know that your prayers, encouragement, and kind words mean just as much to me as any gift. Every act of love, no matter how small, has reminded me that I’m surrounded by God’s goodness through each of you.
