On July 23rd, Sara was diagnosed with ER+/PR+ Ductal Carcinoma breast cancer. To fight this and protect her future, she will be undergoing a double mastectomy with some immediate reconstruction on September 23rd. During the procedure, the surgeons will also remove her sentinel lymph nodes for testing. Once the surgery is complete, the final pathology results will reveal Sara's next critical treatment steps, indicating whether she will need chemotherapy, radiation, or hormone therapies. Luckily, it was caught early so hopefully, nothing more will be needed. Sara will be completely out of work for at least 8 weeks to recover from this major surgery. THIS MEANS SHE NEEDS QUITE A BIT OF ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT! Because she cannot care for herself initially, her wonderful aunt—who is a breast cancer survivor herself—is traveling from the Central Coast to live with Sara and serve as her full-time caregiver, which comes as a great relief to her 16 year-old son and her. They will MOST ASSUREDLY require assistance with meals, and several other things. You can sign up to assist in many, many ways, right here. A fundraising effort is already underway (with good success, so far!) on another online platform, and Give In Kind is being used primarily as meal-related support. However...please feel free to use this site however you see fit in order to assist Sara and her family in the best and most comfortable way(s) you can! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Sara, Family, Friends, and Care Team
SARA CANNOT DIGEST MUSHROOMS OR RED MEAT, SO PLEASE REFRAIN FROM OFFERING THOSE ITEMS. However, she'll need large amounts of protein during recovery, so we'll need to get creative with other sources of protein! Please be mindful that neither of those above listed ingredients are present in any food items you are gifting Sara and her family. Thank you!
