Helping Dr. William Hyndman Heal: community support for heart surgery recovery

tallahassee, FL

Story

On Monday, January 26, Dr. Hyndman went on a journey that he probably never expected to go on. He bravely went into TMH for a valve replacement and an a-filbrillation correction for his heart. A few months ago, doctors found out that his heart valve was not pumping as it should and that he had a-fibrillation. We are grateful that there are wonderful heart surgeons here in Tallahassee that are skilled enough to take care of him and treat him. But we also know that the next few weeks will be a lot for Dr. Hyndman and Jennifer, as they go through the recovery and healing process. Recovery is expected to take 4-6 weeks, and during that time, Dr. Hyndman will be unable to work, drive, or care for daily physical tasks. That means he'll be navigating meals, rides, medical follow-ups, and all the little things that keep a person well. If you know Dr. Hyndman and Jennifer, you know that they are marvelous people who truly care about others. So, let's round up some community care for them — in showing up for them, in sharing what we have, and in letting love lead. Asking for help isn’t always easy, but we also know that community is where strength lives. So I'm reaching out to our OIED / FAMU village for support during this time. How You Can Help There are so many ways to lighten the load: Meals — homemade, delivered, or grocery support Gift Cards (choose from the list on this page)— groceries, take-out, gas, , etc. Financial Support — for medical costs, and household needs during recovery Every meal, every dollar, every message, every act of care matters — and no contribution is too small. Even just sharing this page with others makes a difference. More than anything, we appreciate your love, encouragement, and positive thoughts as Dr. Hyndman comes out of surgery and he begins the slow, steady work of healing. Thank you for being part of our village. With gratitude, Emily Gung & OIED
