Mutual Aid for Dre

Story

Help Dre afford to live in jail! For two years, Dre has been held in Whatcom County Jail awaiting a trial that keeps getting postponed—allegations that remain unproven, with no opportunity for bail. In that time, he's lost everything: his job, his business, and contact with the family and friends who care about him. The cost of staying connected from behind bars is staggering. A 15-minute call to his mother and brother in Canada costs $7.50. Every text message is 25 cents. The irony is cruel: isolation makes survival harder, but connection is priced out of reach. Dre is fighting for his freedom—literally. He spent his first year without legal representation, teaching himself the law, paying for copies of court documents at 15 cents per page, and covering filing fees. A single case update of 300 pages costs $45. After 12 months, he finally secured a lawyer, but the legal battle continues. Meanwhile, basic dignity comes at a premium: A bowl of soup: $1.19 A sweatshirt to stay warm: $18 A haircut: $25 Socks: $3 per pair An hour of music or a movie to maintain sanity: $3 Dre isn't asking for luxuries. He's asking for enough to not go to bed hungry. To afford a haircut. To hear his mother's voice. To access the legal documents that might prove his innocence. His family in Canada is struggling to survive themselves and can't help. Dre has no money on the outside. He's turning to this community with humility and hope. Every dollar helps: $10 buys postage to stay connected with family $25 covers a haircut or five calls home $50 provides a week of supplemental food $100 pays for legal documents and basic clothing Two years is a long time to wait for justice. Let's help Dre maintain his humanity while he waits for his day in court.

Special Notes

I am acting on behalf of Dre and will forward all money raised directly to his inmate canteen account. Please send money to my Venmo @Renna-Fir and note "Dre" in the comments. He asked for $100-200 per month to cover his expenses. Please consider pledging a monthly amount.
