Story

Hi everyone!! We finally made it to transplant!!! Here’s my story…..About 11 months ago, my back started hurting and became progressively worse. I went to the emergency room and they told me it was a slipped disc and told me to stretch and I could work through it. The pain was so bad, I couldn't make it up the stairs to go to bed and was sleeping on the couch at my fiancés house. I saw a spinal surgeon that referred me to pain management and I was preparing for kyphoplasty for the pain. On August 31st, I slipped off of the couch and had excruciating pain and had to be taken by ambulance to northwest hospital... after CT scans, the dr confirmed I had several vertebral fractures and one severally compressed vertebrae which was causing the pain, but also had other concerns and it was the first time I heard someone tell me to check for multiple myeloma. I was transferred to Banner, the location I had worked for close to 2 decades. They tried to release me, but one Dr wanted to continue running tests. They ended up admitting me for 7 days, and every test got me closer to a diagnosis. Later in September, the oncologist confirmed I have multiple myeloma and it was 95% of the mass in my bone marrow. I began treatment right away through December when the decision was made to repair my spine with a mid- lower thoracic spinal fusion and kyphoplasty on January 2nd, the day before my birthday. After almost a month of recovery, I was released and allowed to continue the focused quartet of drugs designed for multiple myeloma until this April. I have successfully reduced my cancer by 96% and am preparing for an autologous stem cell transplant (my own stem cells). I get admitted for high dose chemo on May 28th and get "rescued" by my own stem cells 24 hours later. I'll be in the hospital for at least 2 weeks with my husband, Isaac, by my side. Yes, we got married in a very small, very quick wedding on November 11th, 2025. It was during the thick of my treatment and we have decided to celebrate appropriately after I have healed and worked through the complicated myeloma treatment process. So here we are ready to fight this battle!! God is good!
