Melissa’s Surgery Update Melissa was diagnosed with thyroid cancer this summer that has spread into her neck and lymph nodes. Surgery is scheduled for September 2. The doctor will remove her entire thyroid, along with the lymph nodes on the side and lower part of her neck. She will stay in the hospital overnight and hopefully released the next day but will need to go home with drainage tubes in her neck. She will need RAI (radioactive iodine) pills, but the doctor said that will probably happen a few months after surgery. The doctor said most people initially take about two weeks off after surgery, although she may need more time depending on how her recovery goes. When she eventually takes the RAI pills, the average is about one week off because she will need to isolate due to being radioactive. We will update the calender once RAI pills are scheduled.
Gluten free meals (family loves tacos, enchiladas, bbq, pastas, pizza, chicken, pork, beef, breakfast casseroles) DoorDash/Uber eats also appreciated as returning to work will be an adjustment. Melissa will also need to self isolate during rai treatment so easy ordering dinner for Matt would be helpful. If unable to assist with a meal but want to help, craft ideas or creative activities for her 3 and 6 year old are greatly appreciated to help make moms temporary new look an exciting time.
