We are her Village- Meals and Support for Ashley Wright and Family

South Bend, IN

Story

Over the past several weeks, Ashley has been navigating some unexpected and frightening health symptoms. After thorough testing, doctors discovered that she has a meningioma tumor located on the temporal lobe of her brain. While hearing the word “tumor” is never easy, there is good news: it is not cancerous. The tumor is pressing on her brain, which explains the unusual symptoms she has been experiencing. Because of that pressure, some of her reactions have been seizure-related, and she has been placed on medication to manage them safely. Ashley has met with multiple neurosurgeons to ensure she has clear, expert guidance. After receiving consistent recommendations and feeling confident in the alignment of care, she has decided to move forward with surgery at the University of Michigan, where she will be treated by a highly specialized neurosurgery team. In the coming weeks, Ashley will undergo additional imaging, including specialized scans of her optic nerves with a neuro-ophthalmologist who works directly with the neurosurgery team. These images will help protect her vision during surgery. Everything so far continues to point toward this being non-cancerous, for which she and the family are deeply thankful. The surgery itself is considered invasive and will take most of the day. The surgical team will carefully access the tumor by temporarily removing a small portion of her skull near her temple to minimize disruption to the brain. Their goal is to remove as much of the tumor as possible while prioritizing safety, especially around the optic nerve. If any portion of the tumor is too risky to remove, it will be left behind to protect vital structures. Recovery is expected to take about six weeks, during which Ashley will focus on healing and regaining strength. During this recovery period, Ashley and her family will need additional support at home. She and her husband, Kenny are caring for their two children, and day-to-day tasks will be more challenging. As most of you know, Ashley asking for help is rare but as a part of her community and those who care about her, we are asking for support in the form of prayers, meal deliveries, and donations to help ease the daily burden and allow her to focus on healing. Every gesture, large or small, will help create space for Ashley to rest, recover, and focus on healing while her family remains supported. While this journey is not without fear, Ashley is approaching it with faith, confidence, and gratitude. She believes and trusts that God is with her every step of the way and is thankful for the time to prepare, the expertise of her medical team, and the love and support surrounding her. Thank you for being part of Ashley’s journey, your prayers, encouragement, and support mean more than words can express.
