In Loving Memory of Elliott “Stackman” Callier January 12, 1943 – August 21, 2026 It is with profound sadness and loving hearts that we announce the passing of Elliott “Stackman” Callier, a beloved family member, friend, accomplished musician, and treasured son of New Orleans. Affectionately known as “Stackman,” Elliott was a gifted saxophonist whose music became part of the rich musical fabric of New Orleans and reached audiences far beyond the city he called home. His talent, passion, and dedication to music allowed him to share the authentic sound and spirit of New Orleans with people around the world. Elliott’s musical journey was extraordinary. He performed alongside and contributed his talents to some of the most influential names in music, including Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Dr. John, and Wardell Quezergue. He was also associated with legendary New Orleans musical institutions and groups, including the Olympia Brass Band, Treme Brass Band, and Preservation Hall Band. His saxophone can be heard on recordings that helped preserve and share the distinctive sounds of New Orleans rhythm and blues, jazz, and brass band music. His contributions included performances with Fats Domino and appearances on recordings such as “Working in the Coal Mine,” as well as Treme Brass Band recordings that documented the evolving New Orleans brass band tradition. Elliott’s music was more than a profession—it was a part of his identity and a gift he shared with generations of listeners. Through his performances, recordings, collaborations, and countless live appearances, he helped carry the culture, history, and unmistakable sound of New Orleans to audiences throughout the United States and around the world. Those who knew Elliott personally will remember more than the accomplished musician. They will remember a man whose presence could light up a room, whose stories and humor brought laughter, and whose personality made him unforgettable. He was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, relative, friend, and a beloved member of the New Orleans community.
