Story

On 11/21/21 I took Sophie into a walk-in clinic thinking she had covid or a bad cold and just wanted to make sure she didn’t need any medicine to get rid of it. The doctor at the clinic sent Sophie to the ER where they drew labs and found out that her hemoglobin was critically low and that she would need blood transfusions. The ER then informed us that we would be traveling by ambulance to a children’s hospital where she could get better care. After we arrived to the children’s hospital ER Sophie had more labs drawn where they found she also have very low white blood cells and ANC and her labs were very off. They admitted us and ran more tests which came back that she had leukemia and RSV. On 11/23/21 she underwent a bone marrow biopsy and had a PICC line put in. The bone marrow biopsy determined that she had Acute myeloid leukemia. A could weeks later we found out that she has a gene called KMT2A which is mixed lineage leukemia which will more then likely be leading her to need a stem cell transplant.
