Caring for Casey: A Little Help for a New Beginning

W
Story

I never thought I would be the person asking strangers for help. I’ve always been the one who gives it. When my stepdad needed help getting back on his feet, I didn’t hesitate. I opened my home to him. I fed him. I clothed him. I made sure he had what he needed. I let him stay with us rent-free while he worked toward getting his life together. He was family, and I believed family took care of each other. When he received several thousand dollars from a settlement, he told me he had my back. I believed him. I trusted that after everything I had done to help him, he wouldn’t leave me stranded when I needed him. But that’s exactly what happened. He got his money. And he disappeared. I was left trying to pick up the pieces without the help I had been promised. Then one thing after another began to fall apart.... My vehicle was repossessed.Without transportation, I couldn’t reliably get to work. I lost my job.Without my income, I couldn’t keep my home. I lost my home. And now, for the first time in my life, I am separated from my two sons. My boys are staying with their fathers while I fight to get myself back on solid ground. Being away from them is one of the most painful things I’ve ever experienced. Every mother who reads this will understand that there is nothing more heartbreaking than knowing your children need you while you’re desperately trying to put yourself in a position to give them the life they deserve. I thought I had finally found somewhere temporary to stay while I figured everything out. But two days ago, that situation became unsafe when one of the homeowners became intoxicated and abused me. So now I’m facing something I never imagined I’d have to say: I don’t have a safe place to go. I am literally looking at the possibility of a shelter. And yet, underneath all of this, I know something important: I can work my way out of this.I am capable. I am willing to work. And I know that if I can just get one stable piece of my life back, I can start rebuilding everything else. That piece is a vehicle. If I had reliable transportation, I could work full-time and make good money. I could get to work every day. I could start paying my bills again. I could secure a place to live. I could start rebuilding the life my boys deserve. That’s why I’m asking for help. My first priorities are: 🚗 A reliable vehicle so I can get back to work 📦 My storage unit so I don’t lose the belongings I have left 📱 My cell phone bill so I can stay connected to work, my children, and resources 🏠 Safe temporary housing while I get stabilized 🔑 A deposit and first month’s rent toward a home of my own I’m not asking anyone to give me a lifetime of support. I’m asking for enough help to get my feet underneath me so I can take it from there. I’ve spent years being the person who shows up for other people. I showed up for my family. I showed up when my stepdad needed me. I gave what I had when someone else was struggling. Now I’m the one standing in the middle of the wreckage, trying to figure out how to start over.bAnd honestly, I’m scared. But I’m not giving up. Because somewhere out there is a version of my life where I have a key in my hand, a safe place to sleep, a vehicle in the driveway, a job I can get to every day, and my boys back under the same roof with me.That’s what I’m fighting for. If you can donate, no matter how small, please know that it isn’t just money to me. It could be gas to get to an interview. It could be a night in a safe place. It could help keep my belongings in storage. It could be part of the vehicle that gets me back to work. And if you can’t donate, please share my story. You never know who might see it, who might know someone with a reliable vehicle, or who might simply be willing to help me get through this chapter. I don’t need someone to save me. I just need someone to help me get back up. And I promise you—I am going to keep getting back up. For myself. For my boys. For the life I’m determined to rebuild. Thank you for helping me find my way home. ❤️
