Story

In late February my husband Wade caught influenza a. After running the full course of medicine given in urgent care Wade took himself to the ER and was admitted to the ICU with double pneumonia on March 4. The next day we learned that in addition to the pneumonia Wade had a staff infection and sepsis. The septic shock was impacting his heart and kidneys, and they gave him a 30% chance of not surviving. For the next five days Wade was intubated and sedated, and we prayed. Monday, March 9 the doctors decided to take the tube out because Wade was breathing so well on his own. Two days later he moved to Progressive Care Unit, due to the drop in the level of oxygen he was needing. But his body had been ravaged by the diseases and he didn’t have the endurance to even sit up on his own. Over the last two weeks, Wade has gained strength and endurance. He was able to start breathing room air without help and walk with only the help of a walker. But some of his numbers still weren’t normal. So, he stayed in PCU and remained under the care of lung, kidney, heart, infectious disease doctors; physical and occupational therapists; hospitalists; and nurses. These people intended to help Wade become strong enough to make it to an inpatient rehab center where he would continue his healing journey. But GOD IS GOOD! In the time we have been here Wade has been able to recover enough strength and endurance to move home and continue his healing there. After 3 weeks in the hospital and being close to death, this is HUGE. We don’t full know what this next phase will look like or how long it will last, but we are so grateful to God and to our friends and family who have already supported us in so many ways and to those who are willing to help in this next phase.
