In the heart of our community, we often encounter stories that touch us deeply, stories that remind us of the strength of the human spirit and the importance of compassion. Today, I want to share the story of my dear friend and sister, Ofie, a remarkable woman who has faced unimaginable loss and continues to inspire us all. On February 3, 2022, Ofie experienced a tragedy that no parent should ever have to endure: the loss of her beloved son, Sebastian, to fentanyl poisoning. In the wake of this heartbreaking event, Ofie transformed her grief into a powerful mission: to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and honor not only Sebastian's memory but also the countless other angels who have been lost to this crisis. Her passion for spreading awareness is a testament to her love for her son and a beacon of hope for others who have faced similar tragedies. However, life has not been easy for Ofie and her family. She is currently battling serious health issues that have led to her being placed on disability. Her husband, too, is unable to work due to a severe work injury, leaving their oldest son as the sole provider for the family during this challenging time. As they navigate these hardships, the burden of everyday expenses can feel overwhelming. To support Ofie and her family during this difficult season, I am organizing a “Kind Food Train” fundraiser. The goal is simple: to provide meals that will ease their financial strain and allow them to focus on healing and supporting one another. Ofie is a giver, a listener, and a loving individual who has always been there for others in their moments of need. Now, it is our turn to lift her up when she needs us the most.
