Supporting the Dowdys

Milwaukee, WI

Story

Gavin is heading into Tumor Takedown Take 2 - ten years since his previous diagnosis with an oligoastrocytoma grade III tumor in February 2013, he will be undergoing a second surgery to remove what appears to be new tumor growth and clear radiation activity from the previous resection site. Gavin's first tumor was four inches and rested on his left optical nerve. Following radiation and chemo, only a tiny bit (less than a half inch) was left in the resected area. Over the past year, Gavin's oncologist at Northwestern had been monitoring the resection area for what at first appeared to be post-radiation activity - almost a cloud/haze over the resection site. Then there appeared to be increased blood flow to the area suggesting a potential resurgence of tumor growth. The surgery will allow the oncology team to then evaluate what is tumor (and the type) and what is removal of post-radiation. We appreciate any support that will help us focus on time together as a family and helping to alleviate household responsibilities to keep Isaac and Cecilia's lives as normal and consistent as possible.

Special Notes

For meals for the family, Renee is gluten intolerant. Meals that are hot and ready to serve, need to be reheated, or may have instructions are all welcomed. If anyone may have Hilton points they would be gracious enough to share, Renee and Gavin will be staying in Chicago for the surgery and anticipated follow-up appointments. This will help them stay at the Hampton Inn that is right across from Northwestern Hospital. If interested in the kid's Christmas wish lists and helping with gifting or sending a fun surprise, they each have Amazon wish lists here: Isaac: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/TORMMQFDQCK4?ref_=wl_share Cecilia: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1A0QHFOHH7O7U?ref_=wl_share For visiting, please text Renee in advance to see how Gavin is feeling.
