Story
Ann, our amazing optical supervisor is facing a recurrence of cancer after a 20-year remission period. As she prepares to undergo extensive treatments in the coming weeks that will undoubtedly impact her daily life. We are trying to initiate a food train to provide support by assisting with meal preparation during this challenging period. Your participation and contributions would be greatly appreciated in helping support Ann during her treatment journey.
Special Notes
First, you should know she has celiac disease, so anything with wheat, rye, barley is out. No flour, breading, etc. This is important because the main side effects from the chemo are tummy troubles and nausea, so no foods that make celiac worse or we have a double pronged issue. Finally, what she will want to eat will vary greatly day to day. What sounds good one day may be nauseating the next. So anything ordered or made should be able to be frozen, if possible, to save for when it sounds good. With all that being said, soups would likely be good. She likes “comfort foods” generally. Casseroles, stews, baked steak (gravy with corn starch), mashed potatoes, Lima beans, you get the idea. She’s never big on desserts but does like fresh fruit. Please keep this in mind! If you are worried about the ingredients in a dish, please ask or just purchase a gift card for her to choose for that days cravings.
