Getting Amanda Back on Her Feet!

Story

Our beloved chaos coordinator, stage manager extraordinaire, and generally superlative human was so special, that in order to walk without pain, she needed serious medical intervention (again). Following femur and knee surgery (actually 3 surgeries at once) Amanda will have a *long* recovery. But with a little help from all of us who love her, we should see her walking and skipping and dancing again in a year! It's a long journey and there are many ways to help, so Mandi has tried to organize asks by whether 1) you live in NYC or far away, 2) you have time or are low capacity, and 3) you have financial resources to share or you don't. No matter your profile, you can help, and any little bit goes a long way! Recovering from major surgery or illness is grueling and lonely. You can make a huge difference in Amanda's recovery and long-term prognosis! Locals first: (if you live far away, scroll down) *If you live nearby and have time, but maybe not a lot of resources, please come visit! The first two weeks especially (until 3/17), Amanda cannot put weight on the leg and needs help moving medical equipment, switching machines, getting food prepared and cleaned up etc. So we need a person each day. If you can lift 15lbs from the floor, you're our hero! For at least six weeks, even just a visit to read together, watch a movie, or play with the cat, Luca, would be gift! *If you're local and have some time and some resources to share, congrats! You're crushing life in the city! It would be lovely if you could come over and bring take out! Or buy groceries and come help meal prep! *No money, no time, but local? Sign up for one of the home services spots! One-legged using a walker, it's really hard for Amanda do even simple things like take the trash and recycling down the hall or move laundry to the washing machine, but you could probably do it in 5 min! You'll look like Brittany Bowe or Elena Meyers Taylor by comparison! (speedy winter olympians) *If you do not live near NYC, but have time, a Skype/Zoom video call would be lovely! Any day you don't see someone signed up, please add yourself for mental health! *Surgery and healthcare in America is *expensive.* If you don't live nearby or don't have a lot of time/capacity right now, money helps. Really! There is a link for Amanda's Venmo, but this site also allows other gift card options. $20 covers an Uber to get to PT $50 covers an Uber to follow up appointments with the surgeon $88 covers a week of Cook Utility meals (with nutrition profile for wound and bone healing) $150 covers one week of the GameReady (machine to reduce pain and inflammation) $350 covers one week of the passive motion machine (to encourage cartilage and tendon graft growth, maintain circulation, prevent improper scar tissue build up, etc.)

Special Notes

We aim for a contact a day, so try to sign up where you see an open day. Immediately post-op (3/4-3/6) Brandon and Rainey are staying. Mandi is staying and helping 3/6 until the morning of 3/12. The most urgent needs are daily help from 3/12 through ~3/20. Amanda can transfer from the toilet to the bed to the couch on her own, but needs an extra pair of hands to set up the wound and joint care machines.
