Charlie's Champions

Livermore, CA

Story

Charlie is facing a challenging battle with DIPG, an aggressive brain cancer, and her family is doing everything possible to support her through this difficult time. Despite some visible symptoms, Charlie has been in good spirits. She knows she has cancer and is bravely undergoing treatment. Charlie's treatment plan includes oral steroids to reduce the tumor's pressure on her brain. On Tuesday, 8/13, Charlie underwent a biopsy to determine her eligibility for a clinical trial. There have been complications as a result of the biopsy, so Charlie will remain at the hospital until she is strong enough to return home. Starting in September, she will begin a six-week course of radiation therapy, requiring anesthesia for each session. If Charlie turns out to be a candidate for the Stanford clinical trial, it will begin 6 weeks after radiation is over. The trial Stanford is suggesting is CAR T Cell treatment. Our understanding is that she'll receive a treatment once a month. Your prayers, support and virtual visits mean the world to Charlie and her family, and we will keep you updated on ways you can help, including meal deliveries and other forms of support.

Special Notes

For those who are able to participate in the meal train, thank you for your time and energy. Feel free to reach out to the organizers of this webpage if you have any questions or need to make changes to your delivery. Important Meal Train Information: For the next 4-6 weeks, David and Katie will rotate their time between Charlie at the hospital, and home with their son Cameron. So for the time being, meals only need to be large enough to feed 2 people. For their convenience, please send healthy meals in disposable containers that you do not need returned, and you can drop meals off on their porch at 5:30pm. This is an unbelievably huge help. It is vital to note that due to the risks associated with anesthesia, Charlie cannot receive treatment if she has any respiratory issues. Once she is home from the hospital, doctors have strongly advised that Charlie remain in isolation until her radiation therapy is complete to prevent any respiratory illness from reaching her. With that in mind, please take extra care to prevent the risk of food borne illness when it comes to meal train deliveries. We cannot thank you all enough for your kindness and support throughout this challenging experience.
