Story
Jacob’s Story: A Chance at Life Jacob is a sweet, bright, kind-hearted 8-year-old boy who was recently diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)—a rare and progressive disease that causes muscle degeneration and weakness. Until just recently, there was no treatment. Families could do nothing but watch as their children lost their ability to walk, move, and eventually breathe. Most boys with DMD don’t live beyond the age of 18. But now, there is hope. A breakthrough treatment called Elevidys became available just nine months ago. It’s the first of its kind—offering boys like Jacob a chance at a longer, fuller life. With this treatment, Jacob has a chance to go to college, pursue a career, maybe start a family of his own, and even meet his grandchildren one day. Jacob is scheduled to receive this life-changing treatment on May 15, 2025. Afterward, he’ll spend 12 weeks in isolation with his mom and younger brother to protect his fragile immune system during recovery. The cost of this one-time treatment is staggering—$3.2 million. Insurance will thankfully cover 80%, but Jacob’s mom is left to raise the remaining $700,000 on her own. She needs our help. We’re reaching out to our community with hearts full of hope, asking for your support in giving Jacob the gift of time and possibility. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to that goal. We’re also organizing a meal train for the 12-week isolation period, so Jacob’s mom can focus fully on caring for her boys without having to worry about daily meals. Your generosity can make a life-changing difference. Thank you for standing with Jacob and giving him the chance to live the life every child deserves.
