Story
Hi friends— On July 2, I’m having brain surgery to **Evict Pete**—a benign pituitary tumor who’s been freeloading in my head for years, messing with my hormones and overall health. When he started messing with my **vision**, that was the final straw. Pete’s gotta go. This is a big, necessary surgery with a real recovery window—about 8 weeks if everything goes well. I’m ramping down my business in late June, and while I won’t be homeless, this whole situation requires me to step away from income-generating work *and* dip into my reserves to stay afloat. That’s… less than ideal. The firstcouple of weeks post-surgery, I’ll be pretty much out of commission—focusing on rest, pain management, and letting my brain recover from being poked in the pituitary. After that, it’ll be a slower phase of healing that involves a lot of brain rest, gentle movement, and re-strengthening my body. Basically: not exciting, but very necessary. So many people have asked, *“What can I do to help?”* This page is my answer. Because as much as I suck at asking for help, I know I need it—and this makes it easier for us all. If you’d like to support my recovery, here’s what helps most: * **PayPal or Venmo** — helps me pay local folks I already work with for deep cleans and errands. (If you're asked for the last 4 digits of my phone number, enter 6142.) * **DoorDash gift cards** — my go-to for prepared meals *and* Whole Foods groceries * **Walmart gift cards** — useful for basics including non-bougie groceries * **Visa gift cards** — totally welcome, but not my top choice I’ll also be sharing occasional updates here. And yes, encouragement, sharing this page, and sending good memes is support too. Whether we’ve been friends for years, met once at a conference, or only ever connected on Zoom, if you’re here and want to help, I welcome it with gratitude. Thanks for being in my corner as I show Pete the door. —Diana
Special Notes
* I’m not using the care calendar right now—but I *may* add tasks like rides or light help later. If I do, I’ll reach out to specific people. * Please **don’t bring meals or drop by unannounced.** I’m not up for visits unless we’ve planned something together. * **Local friends:** If you want to check in or see me before surgery, or a few weeks after (around late July), feel free to message me. Just know I may be slower to respond while I’m busy kicking Pete out of my skull. * If you’re not sure what to choose, **PayPal/Venmo or DoorDash** is most useful. * **Walmart gift cards** are great for practical basics and basic groceries. * **Visa gift cards** are totally welcome, but less helpful in paying my local folks. * I’ll use PayPal and/or Venmo to pay my regular local helpers (house cleaners, errands, etc.) who I already know and trust. **PS:** If you were thinking about mailing me a lasagna or a Live Laugh Love pillow—just send tacos (by way of a DoorDash card) instead.
