There are no words to describe the shock of the recent and devastating diagnosis for Lexi. In late November, after having severe hip pain for more than two months, an MRI revealed a sizable mass in her femur. No longer able to bear weight on her leg, she immediately went on crutches to avoid a fracture. A biopsy and several scans, doctors appointments, and blood draws confirmed a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer adenocarcinoma. While the Valaseks and their immediate family are reeling from this news, we have quickly formulated plans to help with Bill, Maya, Evan and Jack while Lexi undergoes treatment. In the coming weeks, a treatment plan will be implemented in hopes of helping Lexi to manage the pain, shrink the tumor in her femur and hip, and attack the cancerous cells in her lungs. She underwent surgery on Friday, December 8 to stabilize her femur so that she can walk again. The surgery was a success and she is on her way to gaining her mobility back! Her chemotherapy began on December 13. Other treatments will be added in the new year. Please keep the Valaseks in your thoughts as they navigate this challenging time. Lexi’s mom Roberta will stay with them indefinitely and her sister and local friends will be on call for carpools, outings and other events to ensure that the kids are well taken care of while Lexi is undergoing treatment. The Valaseks are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support from their family, friends, and community. Please check back for updates and other ways you can support them.
