In Loving Memory of Josh - Support for Kim

Story

Josh was a devoted partner, father figure, and friend whose kindness touched everyone around him. This year was meant to mark a new beginning. After 24 years of service, he was approaching retirement, the chapter he had worked so hard for, and he and Kim were preparing to step into it together as husband and wife, looking forward to the life they had dreamed of. Josh and Kim had been together for six years, building a life filled with love, laughter, and family. They were planning to get their marriage license on May 30th, an anniversary that meant so much to them, and celebrate their wedding this October surrounded by friends and loved ones. As Josh’s neighbor for many years, I had the privilege of knowing him before and after Kim became part of his life. When she and her two daughters, Drea and Gaby, entered his world, it was like watching his life become whole in the most beautiful way. I had never seen him so happy, so full. He loved those girls as his own from the very beginning, they were his heart, his family, his everything. Josh passed away unexpectedly on April 25th at the age of 44, just days before his 45th birthday. His loss has left an unimaginable void for those who loved him most. Because Josh and Kim had not yet been legally married, Kim is not eligible for military benefits or support. She is now facing not only the unimaginable heartbreak of losing the man she planned to spend her life with, but also the overwhelming responsibility of planning his funeral, supporting her grieving daughters, and caring for the home and animals they shared. Josh was the primary provider for their household, and Kim is now facing significant financial uncertainty, including the possibility of losing their home. She is also caring for their two dogs and two cats, who Josh loved dearly and who were such a special part of their family. Josh was one of the most selfless people I have ever known. He was the kind of man who would drop everything to help someone in need. As Kim so beautifully said, it didn’t matter if he had known you for 50 years or 5 minutes, he would be there without hesitation. His generosity, kindness, and selfless heart will never be forgotten. We are coming together as a community to support Kim during this incredibly difficult time. Any contribution will help ease the burden of immediate expenses such as mortgage payments, household bills, and legal costs associated with navigating the loss of a loved one during the weeks and months ahead. Anyone who knew Josh has their own story of his selflessness and kindness. This is our turn, our final opportunity to honor him by showing up for the one he loved most and supporting Kim.
