Matthew Pusch received a liver transplant on February 2, 2026. The surgery was $1.8 million, and while insurance covered most of it, the lifesaving prescriptions Matt needs are not covered, making this a truly life-threatening situation. Matt is also facing major out-of-pocket costs for nursing care, living expenses during recovery, transportation to frequent medical appointments, and most importantly FOOD! Matt is now on a anti rejection diet. Leaving the house for grocery's and meal prep are definitely a struggle financially. Matt and Melissa need a hand up! Thank you for helping Matt Pusch Forward. Your support means everything.
Matt needs to focus on a high-protein, nutrient-dense diet to aid healing and liver regeneration. Matt needs to eat small, frequent meals, including lean meats, fish, dairy (yogurt/milk), legumes, and colorful fruits and vegetables. Matt needs to stay hydrated, prioritize whole grains for fiber, processed foods, high salt, and excessive fat. MATT'S ANTI REJECTION DIET • Protein for Healing: Consume 3 or more servings daily (poultry, seafood, beans, eggs) to repair tissues. • Fiber for Digestion: Eat fiber-rich foods like whole-grain breads, brown rice, and oatmeal, as bowel movements may be irregular after surgery. • Healthy Fats: Use olive oil, avocado, nuts, and seeds, avoiding saturated and trans fats .• Vitamins & Minerals: At least 5 servings of fruit and vegetables daily, focusing on leafy greens, berries, and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower) to boost immunity. FOODS MATT NEEDS TO AVOID • Salt (Sodium): Limit sodium to prevent fluid retention. • Sugar & Refined Carbs: Reduce intake of sugary drinks, candy, and white bread to manage blood sugar, especially if taking steroids. • Specific Foods Post-Transplant: Avoid grapefruit, pomegranate, star fruit, and raw/undercooked food to prevent infections and medication interactions.
