As many of you know, our sweet Emberlynn has been in the hospital, and it's been a long and unexpected journey for our family. A little while ago, Emberlynn was admitted to Sparrow Hospital after struggling with nausea and vomiting. After multiple trips to the ER and feeling like our concerns weren't being fully heard, we decided that if she needed emergency care again, we would take her to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. About two weeks after being discharged, Emberlynn woke up from a nap complaining that her neck hurt. At first, we thought she had simply slept wrong or pulled a muscle. We took her to urgent care, but they weren't able to find anything concerning. We tried rest, ice, and heat, hoping she would feel better. We had a planned trip to Ohio to visit her Nana and Paw Paw. She seemed to be doing okay at first, but on the drive there, her neck pain returned. We took her to a children's hospital in Ohio, where we were again told it was likely a pulled muscle and she was given a muscle relaxer. She improved for a few days, but then her neck became stiff again and she was losing mobility. On Thursday, July 16, everything changed. Emberlynn began running very high fevers, and we immediately brought her to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. After further testing, doctors discovered she had a severe infection—a swollen lymph node that had developed into a deep neck abscess. She has now been hospitalized for several days, and we've learned she will need surgery to remove the abscess. She will also need to remain in the hospital afterward for continued treatment and IV antibiotics. Ann Arbor is about an hour and a half from home, and this has placed a tremendous strain on our family. Michael has been doing everything he can to balance work, spending time at the hospital, and caring for Bayleigh at home. We've been making constant trips back and forth, eating hospital and restaurant meals, paying for gas, and trying to keep up with everyday expenses we never expected. Several friends and family have asked how they can help, so we've decided to start a meal train. Any meal, gift card, or act of kindness would help relieve some of the stress during this difficult time and allow us to focus on what matters most—helping Emberlynn recover.
