Wilma's Warriors Needed!

Canal Winchester, OH

W
Story

Hello! Our names are Steve & Kathy Pack. The Pack family has been close friends with the Rhone family for many years. Ray Rhone was our oldest son’s first ever football coach in a local youth rec league back in the early 2000s. We have been good friends ever since! We have supported each other personally and professionally, cheered for each other’s children in all their accomplishments and celebrated multiple special occasions and holidays together. We have been there for each other for all the major milestones so far! We have also been there for each other through times of great sadness. The Rhone family is one of the most giving families in our community. They have stepped up and assisted with so many in our community in every way possible from opening their own home, to donations, to volunteering and so much more. The Rhones choose to live an altruistic life and many do not even know how much they have given to our community! Now is the time our community can give back to the Rhone family! This Give InKind page was created with their permission to help the Rhones in their time of need. For those who do not know the Rhone family personally, please allow us the honor to share a little about this wonderful family. Wilma Rhone is blessed with a strong marriage to her husband, Ray Rhone. They are the proud parents of three amazing children, Raymond Cito, Rafael, and Reina. Wilma and Ray have been pillars in our community for over two decades! Both have volunteered in our community for years supporting not only their own kids but all the children in the Groveport Madison area. Many children consider Wilma and Ray to be a second set of supportive parents. The Rhones have graciously opened their homes to several in need. Wilma is known for being supportive, strong, generous, loving, encouraging and selfless. The same can be said of Ray and all three of their children. Recently, the Rhone family had their world turned upside down. Wilma was recently diagnosed with a rare liver cancer. This diagnosis was heartbreaking for the Rhone family. Wilma lost her cousin to synovial sarcoma and more recently, lost her brother to colon cancer. Wilma knows from her cousin’s and brother’s experiences with cancer what she can expect when battling her own cancer. The future is uncertain; however, we all remain hopeful, and we are doing all we can to ensure the Rhones know that they are not alone! Wilma has an army of family and friends who are fighting with her! This diagnosis has brought on many challenges. Wilma has started chemo and the hope is that after a few rounds that the tumors shrink enough that the surgeons will consider operating. As many know, chemo is extremely hard. It is both physically and emotionally draining. It is important that Wilma keeps her strength up during her fight with liver cancer. This includes eating balanced meals. Wilma often prepared the family meals because the family’s schedule has always been very busy. For Wilma, a home-cooked meal is always made with love. The Rhones have two children in college, Cito is working at a local community service center and Ray continues to work full-time while also coaching at the high school and middle school levels. As stated previously, there are a lot of unknowns with this diagnosis. Wilma is able to continue to work for now while receiving her chemo treatments. Wilma is attempting to save as many of her sick days as possible by working around her chemo schedule in case she can have a surgery in the future to remove the tumors. To keep working, it does take all the energy that Wilma has. As much as Wilma enjoys preparing meals for her family, she really doesn't have the energy to do so at this time. What the Rhones really need right now is help with meals especially on days that Wilma receives chemo and the immediate day after a chemo treatment. Our goal is to get enough volunteers to help with dinner on chemo days and to help with breakfast, lunch, and dinner the day after chemo treatments. Once these dates are filled, we hope that the commuity can also help with dinners on all the days between chemo treatments. Her chemo day and especially the day after is when she is the most physically weak. Once those days have been filled, we will open the rest of the calendar for dinner donations. We kindly ask family, friends, and our community to please volunteer to provide a meal for their family of five on the dates listed. This can be accomplished by making a meal and delivering it personally to them or through purchasing local restaurant gift cards that the Rhone family can use to purchase ready-to-eat meals. Please pick a meal and date from the care calendar and follow the prompts. The first meal request is December 1, 2021 so click on the tab to go to December in the Care Calendar below to see all current meal and gift card donation date requests. The gift cards under the Wish List are only restaurants/businesses that this Give InKind webiste has direct links to. This wish list is not exclusive. Any local restaurant gift card would greatfully be accepted as well. The gift cards can be delivered to their address or if the restaurant offers the option, the gift card can be emailed directly to Wilma at [email protected]. Delivered meals or gift cards will be accepted by Ray or one of their children. As much as Wilma would like to thank each person personally, she also needs to limit her contact during this pandemic. If you are currently unable to donate a meal or gift card, we completely understand. This is a challenging time for many. Please join us in prayer for complete healing, comfort, and peace. Her treatment options will vary, and we will update this page as needed. Her cancer treatment team schedules the chemo only for a certain period and then re-evaluates if more chemo is needed or if other treatment options need to be added to her care plan. We expect more meal days will be added in the future when her treatment plans are re-evaluated and updated. Please come back often to see if you are able to help with any of the future dates added. If other needs come to light, we will add it to this Give InKind calendar. We know many have asked how they can help, and our goal is to assist in coordinating meal/gift card donations so that the Rhones can just focus on healing. Her fight is our fight, and it takes a village to get through times like this! We truly hope you can become one of Wilma’s Warriors! Thank you in advance for the prayers and any meal assistance you can provide. #wilmaswarriors “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28. “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” – Proverbs 11:25.

Special Notes

Wilma does have a shellfish allergy so we kindly ask that any meal donations not contain any shellfish, such as shrimp, prawns, crab, lobster, clams, mussels, oysters, scallops, octopus, squid, abalone, and snail. Wilma also has issues with digesting pork and pork products. Because of the chemo, Wilma is at substantial risk of infection as she is now immunocompromised. For those preparing meals and delivering, we kindly ask that it only be prepared and delivered by individuals that have already fully received the covid vaccine. Wilma does need to limit her social interactions which is unfortunate because it is times like this when we need the support of family and friends the most. If you have made the personal decision to not be vaccinated but would still like to help, we kindly request a local restaurant gift card donation instead of a meal personally made and delivered. We hope this request does not offend anyone. The Rhone family just needs to protect Wilma while her immune system is severely compromised. Again, the Rhone family appreciates any meal donations, restaurant gift card donations and prayers.
