As most friends and family know, my brother-in-law, Brad Ryan, was diagnosed in May of 2024 with a very rare and aggressive type of bladder cancer, plasmacytoid bladder cancer. It has been an ongoing journey for my sister, Brad, Alexa, and their 3 beautiful girls. Many may not know, but Brad was originally misdiagnosed. My sister was adamant to find answers as to why chemo, radiation, and a healthy diet + supplements weren't doing anything for his cancer. They exhausted every outlet to talk to doctors and surgeons from Texas all the way to New York in hopes of finding the best plan for Brad. From countless appointments, calls, questions, tests, my sister refused to let his cancer keep him from "walking his three girls down the aisle one day." Thats her goal, as she told every doctor she met. He WILL walk those three beautiful girls down the aisle. If you have encountered Brad and Alexa since his diagnosis, you wouldn't think it may be more serious than it is. They are some of the most selfless people I know. I want to try and take some of the stress off of them and give their girls some normalcy as they navigate this new journey, and heal. Brad had his bladder & prostate removed at the Cleveland Clinic on Friday, July 25th. He took a picture of his wife and kids in a plastic bag into the operating room with him, which is the picture shown. He's a family man. He's one of the greatest dads that I know to those girls. He's the type of dad I wish everyone could have. His family is his motivation. He is devoted to his family and friends. His surgery was originally supposed to be a 9 hour surgery and ended up being 13 hours. A couple complications occured during his surgery, but was ultimately in the clear to complete his neo bladder. They have an AMAZING tribe behind them and this fight. I know they would never ask for a single thing. Trust me, I know. My sister is as stubborn as I am. I know not everyone is in the position to donate anything and I completely understand if not. This is coming from me. I know my sister says, "Mitz, everyone has hospital bills." But, not everyone is going through what you are in the most unimaginable. Brad has a long, long, long healing journey ahead of him. He won't be fully healed for about a year, if not more. Anything is appreciated- not expected. Life is appreciated by this crew every day, but your next day is not to be expected. As Brad said, "hug those that mean the most." But I will say, I know Brad will have many days ahead of him. And he is going to walk those 3 beautiful girls down the aisle when their day comes. Each and every one of them. Thank you, all.
As Brad hasn't been eating very much after surgery, and is on a strict diet, the Ryan's have requested gift card & monetary donations to reduce any waste. The Ryan's primarily grocery shop at Heinen's, Giant Eagle and Costco.
