Poppa's Josephus Journey

Gallatin, TN

W
Story

**Update: Mike/Poppa earn his angel wings on the early morning of July 9th. Everything changed in an instant for Mike Miller and Donna Griggs and their family. Short Story: Two brain surgeries (1 for tumor removal and 1 for brain bleed) and a terminal diagnosis of Grade 4 Glioblastoma has turned their world on the edge Long Story: Mid to Late May...Donna and Mike noticed a few things that weren't quite right such as left sided weakness. On May 30th, Mike agreed to go to ER for testing...within 4 hours it was known that the cause of symptoms was a right sided brain tumor about the size of a ping pong ball to small clementine. On June 1st, Mike went into to surgery to remove the tumor...that he named 'Josephus'. The tumor was successfully removed and doctors gave a best/worst diagnosis on Josephus, but official pathology would take days to a week.. The morning of June 3rd, Mike was up and dressed eating breakfast when an event happened that sent him to a Stat CT scan and then onto surgery. This surgery was to remove a blood clot that had formed in the tumor bed (spot were the tumor was) with unknown damage possibilities. Over the past week, there have been many ups, downs, progress, less progress, no progress, tubes in, tubes out, IV's, Central Lines, medications, and much more. Mike even spent his 66th birthday in the Neuro ICU...not ideal, but at least the day came and he was still with us. As of June 9th, Mike is awake, gradually moving around in the bed, sitting in a neuro chair, chatting with Donna, talking about the future, etc. Pathology has come back on Josephus and the official name of him is GLIOBLASTOMA GRADE 4. This cancer is fast acting, aggressive, terminal, and usually localized to the brain. Currently, options of physical rehab, radiation, chemo, etc are being considered. But, please understand that there is no cure for this cancer and it will take Mike away from us in a timeframe that doesn't seem long enough and only God knows that timeframe. This page was started because of the outpouring of support and offer of help. Please feel free to sign up for meals, help with errands, purchase items on wishlists, etc. Any and all support and/or help is much appreciated. Prayers, positive thoughts, and good vibes are welcomed! Please contact Deanna Sanders, Sarah Wilkinson, or leave message through this page. Donna is focusing on Mike, but she does feel the love, support, and prayers. For now preparing for inpatient rehab, coming home needs, and preparing for treatment is the most prevalent need. Meal help and more will be later on in the process. If you have any suggestions, please message us.
