Cancer, you picked the WRONG woman! Monica Alexander's Breast Cancer Journey

Cincinnati, OH

Story

Monica Alexander is so many things to so many people...a Mom, Wife, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Great Aunt, and Friend. In May 2019, after her second mammogram, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The good news is the cancer was found EARLY (stage 1). Monica's strength, spirit, and determination to beat this cancer is the truly tremendous. Monica's treatment plan begins with a full mastectomy and reconstruction surgery on Tuesday, July 2, 2019. Surgery is at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is unknown whether Monica will need to undergo Chemotherapy, and that will be determined once the pathology is complete on both the cancer mass and a lymph node sampling. There has been such an outpouring of love, prayer, and offers of support that we want to help organize this in one, easy to follow place, so that you know exactly what you can do to help and we can spread out the help throughout her recovery period. Ways to help: 1. Provide a Dinner Meal or Gift Card - sign ups are through Friday, August 2nd. Additional dates may be added into August. (Additional details below in special notes). 2. Provide a Lunch Meal - sign ups are for M-W-F to provide lunch-type food a few days a week. 3. Care Givers - Monica will need assistance with daily activities, especially in the first few weeks after surgery. We created spots for daily helpers on days when Jeff is at work to help with anything from warming up food, assistance with showering and dressing, 4. Financial Support - Despite having insurance, the costs of treatment and all the extra things needed during this time is astronomical. We have several ways you can help support Monica, and have some fun too!!! T-Shirts: Please contact Daniele Schum if you'd like to order a t-shirt to support Monica! We are selling custom designed t-shirts for $20. All proceeds go to the Alexander Family to help with medical expenses. Bowling Fundraiser: Save the date! On August 3rd we're hosting an adult fundraiser! There will be bowling, food, raffles, silent auctions, split the pot, and MUCH more! All proceeds go to the Alexander Family to help with medical expenses. 5. Prayers & Positivity: Above all, Monica and her family need lots of prayers and positive vibes coming their way! Thank you for being here and supporting Monica!

Special Notes

Dinners - The Alexanders prefer Mexican, Italian, American, and Chinese dishes. They eat a lot of chicken, but also enjoy beef and pork. Please kindly avoid seafood and dishes with high heat spices. Drop Off: Please drop off the meal items in the cooler outside their front door between 4-6pm on your assigned day. Please leave everything in disposable containers that don't need to be returned. Gift Cards: If cooking isn't your cup of tea you could provide a gift card to a local restaurant (TO BE UPDATED) or Uber Eats or DoorDash. This will allow them to have lots of food options at their fingertips. Lunches - Our idea is to have lunch-type items dropped off three days a week. Between these and dinner leftovers they should have lots of meal options for themselves and caregivers. Please consider items such as lunchmeat, bread/rolls/buns, salads, fruit, etc. Please drop off the lunch in the cooler by noon on the day you signed up. Again, please use disposable containers that don't need to be returned. *Drop Off location is 4083 Rybolt Road. *Alternate drop location is 5935 Snyder Road, 45247 from July 15-19.
