Story

Renee’s Words— This is not something I EVER thought I would be posting and I thought long and hard about whether or not I was going to post something but having a support system even if some are by Facebook can mean something. My journey started in July when I decided to have genetic testing done, I was testing for 70 or 80 different cancer genes and unfortunately I was positive for the Chek2 mutation. That means in my lifetime I have a higher risk of developing breast cancer and a few other, but due to my family history I was scheduled an appointment with a Breast Dr in Morgantown. We started with a diagnostic Breast MRI and the plan going forward would be every 6 months I would have one due to the mutation. Well of course something showed suspicious on my right side in the MRI and they recommended a diagnostic Breast mammogram. So a couple of weeks later I went back to Morgantown had my testing…and that is when 2 spots showed on the right and 1 on the left and I was recommended for biopsies. I had my biopsies done on 12/18 and the Dr called me on 12/21 to tell me that I had bilateral DCIS which is ductal carcinoma in situ, it is early stages and setup the appointment with the breast surgeon. I met again with Dr. Bailey today who is absolutely wonderful and will be having a double mastectomy and as long as she goes in and nothing has grown to invasive I will not need chemotherapy or radiation. At this point I’m just trying to take all the information in and process it one day at a time. I just ask for prayers for me and my family as we begin this long journey together and pray that when I do have surgery there is NO invasive cancer. I know some days will be easy and some won’t but I have an amazing support system on my side and we will get through this. #WhearGonnaFight 💗
