Meals for Gina

Poteau, OK

Story

After a car wreck she miraculously walked away from my mother was given a CT scan that found a mass on her left kidney. She’s since had the kidney, with the tumor who she named Karl, successfully removed. Even though they think they removed all the cancer her doctor has advised her to begin Keytruda Immunotherapy beginning every three weeks and then every six weeks for the next year to cover their bases and make sure it doesn’t come back or spread. However because of multiple strokes earlier this year she and my step father stay with and care for my step grandmother during the week. Starting chemo is also delaying her return to the classroom. We’ve now transitioned to every six weeks because her infusions have caused insane swelling and pain that some days leaves her unable to walk. My Momma is the kindest person I know and she’s always there for everyone. She has been a beloved McCurtain Bulldog, Cameron Yellowjacket, and Poteau Pirate teacher as well as a talented reporter , newspaper editor, and 911 dispatcher in her various former lives. Personally, I am also a classroom teacher and have moved two hours away and cannot be with her as much as I’d like. This page is an effort to relieve as much of their stress as possible. She would also like me to add that being unable to walk is rather lonely and she loves company.
