Hi, my name is Alla, and recently, my life took an unexpected turn. Just a couple of months ago, I was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer. Those were words I never wanted to hear — and yet, here I am. I’ve started treatment here in Los Angeles, and the journey ahead includes chemotherapy, surgery, and recovery. I live with my wife, Iana. We came a long way to get here: we left Russia, were granted asylum in the U.S. as an LGBTQ+ couple, and started building a new life from scratch. I'm a filmmaker, and Iana is studying to continue her career in medicine. We were just beginning to find our footing — and then everything changed again. To be honest, asking for help is not easy for me. I've always tried to handle things on my own. But treatment brings not only physical and emotional challenges, it also creates financial strain and uncertainty.
