Story
Becky and Josh's sweet daughter Charlie has been diagnosed with Myeloid Leukemia associated with Down Syndrome (ML-DS). It’s a rare but very treatable form of leukemia, and treatment outcomes are encouraging. That said, the road ahead will be intense. Charlie will go through 6 cycles of chemotherapy, each requiring a month-long hospital stay. If her counts allow, they’ll get a week at home in between cycles. The Sauers are anticipating 8-9+ months of treatment. This page was created to rally support for the Sauers during this challenging season — both in and out of the hospital. From meals to errands, encouragement to practical help, your care can make a huge difference. Let’s surround this sweet family with love and support every step of the way.
Special Notes
When the Sauers stay at the hospital, we are trying to be mindful of how much "stuff" we bring. They have access to a shared fridge down the hall, so we are keeping with one homemade meal a week. Please remember to make meals gluten free and limit any sort of food-prep that needs to be done (ie: food should be able to be easily heated in a microwave). *Flowers/other living organisms are not permitted in the hospital* Ways to Help: 1. Gift Cards- Send them gift cards so they can get food, groceries, supplies, and money for gas/parking while they settle into their new rhythm. Digital Gift cards can be sent to josh@joshsauer.com. 2. Visits- While the calendar may show availability for a visit, keep in mind that visits will still need to be approved by Charlie's medical team so please remain flexible in case something comes up and Charlie can't have visitors. Josh or Becky will be the ones to let you know if they can't have visitors. Guests must be over 18 and in full health (including no allergy symptoms or recent exposures). 3. Encouraging words - Mail the Sauer's an encouraging note! Text Brooke 215-353-2893 for their address or give notes to Betsey at church. The care calendar will be adjusted as in-person needs arise!
