PCE Kidney Transplant Expenses

Story

Hi! My name is Christopher Lewis Edwards, Sr. I'm the only son of Lewis and Shirley Edwards raised in Stamford Connecticut. In July of 2012, I was diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or stage four kidney failure. I had hoped to overcome this by changing my diet, but to no avail, in October 2012 I had to start dialysis. To say that this journey has been difficult is an understatement. If not for my faith in God, my wife, immediate family, and a few close friends I know I wouldn't have made it this far. I have had multiple surgeries as it relates to my fistula in both arms. I have had to endure the amputation of three fingers and six surgeries on my left hand in 2018. The last set of surgeries disqualified me from getting a kidney transplant at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2018. As much as I wanted to give up, because of God's love for me and my love for Him and my family, I did not. I have partnered with my doctors, and with their help, I continued to fight for a transplant listing through the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Thanks be unto God!!! I received a phone call on Friday, September 24, 2021, at around 6:10 PM from my listing coordinator making me aware I am now OFFICIALLY ON THE TRANSPLANT LIST... That means that I have to keep a packed bag and at any moment I could get the call and have to get to UT Medical Center to receive my KIDNEY TRANSPLANT..... Thank You, Jesus!!! But we are in need of your help. We raised some funds in 2016, attempting to be transplanted through UNC-Chapel Hill, and with your assistance, we were able to relocate to Raleigh, procure medications and attend all associated appointments... Without warning, I began to lose my ability to walk independently. I fell into depression and began self-mutilating. Circa 2021. God has restored my ability to walk (without assistance). I have made tremendous strides... I make sure that my faith, love for God, family, physical and mental health are strong. So here we are!!! Once we get the call and surgery is successful I will need to be in Knoxville Tennessee for a minimum of six weeks. I will not be able to drive. The healing process is pretty intense. My immune system will be completely shut down. We need to raise $33,500!! Here is the list of expected expenses that insurance will not cover: 1) Temporary lodging for 4 - 6 weeks in the Knoxville area near the hospital 2) The out of pocket portion of anti-rejection meds 3) Travel and living expenses for caregivers 4) Travel and expenses for out of state donor With your assistance God will manifest the life He desires for my loved ones and me to have. please post and share this in your feed. My wife, my rock, my caregiver, Lady Doreen Edwards, The Edwards family and close friends thank you in advance for your generosity. God bless.
