Raquel’s Cancer Journey

Redmond, WA

Story

My name is Raquel Aguilar and on June 28th I was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic adenocarcinoma with a colon origin. On June 24th of 2023 I was on the beach with new friends, excited about my future. On June 25th I woke up in excruciating pain and after an extensive day in the ER doctors found cancer on my ovaries and liver. Everything happened fast, between endless doctors visits, liver biopsy, colonoscopy and endoscopy, multiple CT scans, followed by a near week long admittance to the hospital. Doctors found the origin of my cancer was in my colon, and that it has metastasized to my ovaries, liver, lungs, and abdominal lining. My prognosis is poor but I’m fighting and hoping for a good outcome. I’ve just completed my seventh chemo and I’m looking into clinical studies to improve my odds of survival.

Special Notes

My dietary needs have recently changed and I am updating them here. I am anemic so any way I can get extra protein without eating large amounts of meat is a win. I no longer eat dairy. Everything I eat is dairy free and no more processed, packaged foods or foods with preservatives or artificial flavors, or food dyes (especially red 40). My meals are either scratch made or purchased, depending on how sick I am. For meals with meat, small portions of meat are ideal. I don't eat very much so small meals in general are perfect. Since my updated prognosis on Dec 7th, my diet is more important than ever and home cooked meals are keeping me alive.
