Story
Welcome to My Support Page Hello everyone! As some of you may already know, I have recently been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer (HER2+)… what an unexpected way to start the new year off! I am currently undergoing chemotherapy (weekly) and immunotherapy (every 3 wks) for a period of 18 weeks and then will be preparing for surgery as part of my treatment. After which I will continue immunotherapy for the remainder of the year. I will likely need radiation also but timing/type is TBD. The prognosis is great provided I complete the intended treatments and my body responds favorably. I have an amazing team of talented physicians, surgeons, specialists, pharmacists, RNs, therapists, techs, coaches/navigators and other supportive staff caring for me at Inova Schar Cancer Institute in collaboration with Virginia Cancer Specialists. Yes… it literally takes a village to kill cancer! I am so grateful to my wonderful colleagues, staff and family for their support, arranging and coordinating my care and being my eyes/ears/voice while I was in shock and unable. Although I’m a doc myself and I know what’s up, I must admit that I am a wee bit scared of the arduous process just like any patient would be. This journey will be challenging (and has already been), but I am facing it with all the faith, hope and positivity I can muster, along with the support of my incredible community… YOU ALL! Through it all, I am leaning on GOD’s strength and trusting in His plan for me. I know I am not walking this path alone… His grace, guidance and love sustains me and your prayers and support uplift me. We created this space to keep everyone updated on my progress and to reach out for help when needed (which is not easy for me to do). Whether it’s assistance with meals, rides to weekly chemotherapy sessions, household tasks, or simply emotional support, your kindness and generosity mean the world to me. If you’d like to lend a hand in ANY way—big or small—I would be beyond grateful. Please check in here for any requests or updates, and know that your love, prayers and encouragement are keeping my head up through this difficult time. I am a fighter and YES I’m also claiming that I am a survivor (come Feb 2026 I can officially hold that status). A dear friend and former colleague of mine gifted me a small vial with a tiny mustard seed inside. Instantly I knew EXACTLY what she meant, no words necessary. And I’m paraphrasing here… “if only I have faith the size of a mustard seed then I can move mountains and nothing is impossible for me” (Matthew 17:20). So me and my little mustard seed are READY! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being part of my journey. I am blessed to have each of you by my side. With love and gratitude, Stephanie J. Williams, MD
