Story
Courtney is Kicking Cancer. On May 28th 2024 after experiencing symptoms, Courtney at the age of 40 had a colonoscopy and endoscopy done. (The new recommended age is 45, and colon cancer if caught early with a colonoscopy is completely preventable. We both encourage everyone to get it done if you haven't. Courtney has no family history of cancer and most people don't even experience symptoms. So we thank God everyday for the symptoms she experienced) When Courtney woke up from the anesthesia, she was met with her doctor who shared she had found a tumor in Courtney's sigmoid colon and she was certain it was cancerous but pathology reports will need to confirm. The very next day the doctor called confirming her findings. Since that moment it has been a whirlwind, but Courtney has found peace in the chaos through her faith. Courtney had two surgeries, the first was to take the tumor out and resection her colon, the second was for the placement of a port in her upper right chest to her neck. After the first surgery, pathology reports come back to stage the tumor and findings. Courtney was diagnosed with stage 3C colon Cancer. The tumor was successfully removed, all of it! The surgeon had terrific margins. Courtney did have 5 nearby lymph nodes outside of the colon wall that tested positive with the tumor/ aka cancer. Since then she has started chemo which will continue until February. Her chemo schedule is every 14 days of FOLFOX for a duration of 12 rounds unless something changes. When Courtney leaves the infusion center at Brock Cancer Center, she has a pump on for 48 hrs. Then she returns to get the pump taken off and two days later has another infusion of hydrating IV an anti-nausea meds. The next 4-5 days are difficult with the nausea, neuropathy in hands and feet, cold sensitivity and lethargy. The following week, she starts to feel like herself again and energy levels slowly return with that Friday being her next treatment. We are 4 treatments in and 8 to go. We praise the Good Lord for single digits.
