Blake’s Recovery Meal Train

DeKalb, IL

Story

Hi everyone! My name is Samantha, as some of you know, my future brother in law, Blake Newton has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at only 26 years old. So many wonderful and caring people have asked our family what they can do to help, so in addition to Blake’s Go Fund Me, we decided to set up a Meal Train as he recovers at home after a week in the hospital having his procedure. For everyone that doesn’t know, in August, Blake & his girlfriend Holly Kruckenberg, moved into their first home together! Shortly after, Blake was diagnosed with a Neuroendocrine tumor in his pancreas. Blake had surgery called a Whipple Procedure on January 9th to remove the tumor, the cystic part of his pancreas, his gall bladder, and part of his intestines. Even with a few complications, the surgery was a success! The two will hopefully be able to come home one week after surgery. Recovery will be a long and difficult process. Blake won’t be back to work for several months, and will need to be cared for at home during that time. While he is taking a break from school and recovering at home, Holly will be finishing her last semester of law school and working full time for the both of them. Blake is expected to be back on his feet around May, which is the same time Holly will take off work to study for the Bar Exam in July We are so thankful for the wonderful community of people coming together to help navigate Blake’s healing journey! We understand not everyone can make or bring a meal, but we all appreciate any and everything and are unbelievably thankful for your kindness, support, prayers and positive energy. Please feel free to contact our family during this time with any questions and words of encouragement!

Special Notes

DIETARY NOTES: Please avoid red meats or spicy foods. Chicken, fish, rice, potatoes and other hearty meals or soups and easy eats have been wonderful for Blake in this time.
