Supporting Laura and Jamie

Nixa, MO

Story

(From Sarah) Hey gang! As you may have heard, our fellow employees, Jamie and Laura, have a tough road ahead of them. I know a lot of you would love to support them through this tough time and have asked what they need most. One of the best ways we can help them out right now is to provide dinner for them a few times a week. This can be in the form of a prepared meal, a restaurant gift card to a place where they can pick up a quick meal, or even DoorDash. Grocery store gift cards would also be helpful for nonfood items like toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc. You can coordinate with Laura on a good drop-off location if you choose to deliver something. Let me know if you have any questions! Below you will find a calendar to sign up for a specific day. We will continue to update the website as new needs arise. (From Laura) I wanted to share the situation with you all in case there were some who didn’t know. Jamie has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. It is aggressive and incurable. The treatments that are happening are for quality and quantity of life, since we know he will not recover from this. Jamie will go through 3 rounds of chemotherapy and radiation in all, and treatments have already begun. Thankfully, he has not had a terrible reaction to the chemotherapy thus far, however things change day by day and today he has started having nausea, fatigue and continues to have pain. Introducing radiation therapy this week, coinciding with his chemo, will likely cause him to suffer from many more side effects. He continues to try and be positive and optimistic but as stated earlier, everything is day by day and sometimes the reality of the situation hits hard and brings him down. Dealing with the cancer and cancer treatments, and the fact that he can no longer work, has resulted in a total disruption of our family’s life, making the situation even harder to cope with. Friendship, showing love and support, kind messages and even being physically present bring him happiness and he welcomes the positivity that comes from anyone willing to show their support.
