Story
Thanks to Lisa for helping set up this page. My breast cancer journey unfortunately began on 10/31 when I got the call from the breast radiologist. My nightmare had come true - Invasive carcinoma with lobular features noted on one of the biopsies. You may be wondering, what led to the biopsy? Well, I had my routine mammogram last February and as always it noted dense breast tissue. An MR mammogram was recommended and performed in August. It revealed multiple well-circumscribed lesions bilaterally, “likely fibroadenomas, likely benign; recommend followup MRI in 6 months”. I asked a breast radiologist (that I met last year during a leadership course) if she could kindly look at the images and she agreed that the lesions looked benign. The only reason that it was read as “likely benign” was that I didn’t have any prior MRIs. Given my family history of breast cancer, however, she offered to arrange for an ultrasound with possible biopsy of the bigger lesions. After much contemplation, I decided to move forward with the biopsy. I told myself that I would rather get it checked out now and it be nothing than to find out in 6 months that I had cancer. Sadly, it wasn’t nothing. I am thankful though that I got the biopsy and listened to my intuition. Ladies - always advocate for what yourself! I sure am glad that I did. Bilateral mastectomy is set for 12/3. It’s so surreal but here we are. Please pray that it hasn’t spread and that surgery goes well! Thanks in advance for your love and support.
