Gina Maki's Corner

Woodinville, WA

Story

Those of us lucky enough to know Gina and Andy Maki know that they are kind friends and community supporters to many. Gina recently being diagnosed with colon cancer is in a fight that she didn't want to have to fight, but we want to show her that they are not alone in this. Although many of us want to help, Gina's biggest wish is for prayers for their family, and that her kids can live as normally as possible. So with that in mind, please keep their privacy sacred. However, due to the overwhelming support and love and friends/family asking what they can do, we have created this site of “needs/wants” that will make this fight “easier” on the family. There will be a donation box/cooler by their front door and we ask that anyone dropping anything off please use that in lieu of interrupting her schedule of rest and healing, and let's be honest, her scheduling, helping, child-raising, dinner-making, homework helping self. Let's show her we're in her corner! Thanks in advance! - Sarah Koehler and Kylie Muff

Special Notes

4/1/20 E L E V E N T H….that’s 11TH Chemo complete! Late March scan results were celebratory showing further reductions and tumor markers continue to go in the right direction. Honoring this good news is a must even though the view from this point in time is uncertain and seemingly harder to fathom every day with a rigorous, unrelenting chemo schedule. 11th Chemo has proven to be a little challenging as Gina’s platelet level is low this round. Now we will pray while we wait to see an improvement with Gina’s immune system response…..which brings us to COVID19 frustration! Gina is only leaving the house for chemo to stay on the very safe side. Gina’s Mom, Andy, and the boys are rarely, if at all, leaving home to play it as safe as they can. A deep thankful hug and love to all that have been so generous with meals, item deliveries, notes, and prayers. We are all stronger in #ginascorner -Kylie and Sarah 3/24/20 Update: Well, Gina has now been through 10 treatments. Numbers continue to come down, although with less cancer in her body, the chemo takes more of a toll on her healthy cells. Please continue to pray for her, especially during this crazy COVID-19 time. She is understandably more isolated, and because of our stay-at-home orders and COVID, we are going to suspend meal delivery for the next month. However, as you can imagine, grocery delivery is tough to schedule right now. Instead of meals, I'm going to post some of the things she needs each week and if people are out getting groceries, maybe they could pick up a few things and deliver to her? It would be SO helpful! 2/25/20 Update on chemo: Gina has been through 8 chemo treatments so far! Numbers are thankfully continuing to come down, but the treatments are physically very rough on Gina and mentally, it's getting very draining for her to know that there are more to come. Let's bolster her spirits so her body can keep up this awesome fight! Best way to help now is encouraging messages, kid friendly meals or gift cards to local take out restaurants (I'll update the meal calendar). Thanks everyone! #Ginascorner 12/28 #GinasCorner Round 5 this week! The Makis are blown away by all the support shown these past few months. She's 5 rounds in as of today and true to Gina, thinking about others--she is looking to create a tshirt that proceeds will go to Cancer research. Check out: www.bonfire.com/store/ginascorner ! She's also pulling the link to the Amazon wishlist. Any donations can be make through this site in the future if you wish to do so. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. This family deserves it! -Sarah and Kylie 11/28 Gratitude. A word we all think about so much this time of year. Also, the emotion felt by the Maki Family for all the love and support, prayers and positive thoughts, and kind gifts they have received. After each round of Chemo treatment she usually feels ill and exhausted for about a week after treatment. Good news is tumor markers are decreasing but the road is long and wearing. All the encouragement and support go a long way. Thank you for being in #GinasCorner!  💙 Kylie & Sarah Right now, Gina's mom is staying with them and helping with meals. With as many different tastes that the kids have, the best way to help with a meal is gift cards. In addition, she loves to craft, and needs things to keep her busy. Think Costco, Safeway, Zeek's, MOD, Amazon, Shell, Starbucks, Visa. Address:18636 157th Pl NE Woodinville, WA 98072 As needs change, I'll update the site with whatever will help the Maki fam most.
