A quick note from Karissa: After weeks of interventions that wrecked my body: medications and monitoring, hospital stays and bed rest, Teyautli Leal Marcella was born at 6:45 am on Thursday August 19th. Weighing 4 lbs and 13 oz at 33 weeks and 5 days, T was 6 weeks early. Because of this, needs at least 4 weeks of NICU support. We are getting the best care in Denver, at a hosipital with one of the best NICU units in the country, but we have exhausted all of our funds. I started a new job as an OB nurse in June, thinking that I would deliver around my due date in October and be able to get paid while taking maternity leave. I cannot use PTO or get paid in anyway for the entire time I have already missed before baby was born, or even now when I should be getting maternity leave. We have used what little retirement money I have earned in the last year to pay our rent and have had to rely mainly on credit cards to take care of ourselves and baby's needs. Now, on top of that, we are going to have huge hospital bills even with private insurance. We would appreciate any and all support.
