Story
On February 16th, Holly was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, a form of breast cancer that was found during a regular mammogram screening. Since she has multiple masses in both of her breasts, a bilateral mastectomy was her only option. She will have surgery on March 26th, followed by 5 years of daily Tamoxifen hormone therapy to help prevent a recurrence. The MGH Cancer Center team does not believe the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, so she most likely will be able to avoid chemo and radiation, but won’t know for sure until the pathology comes back from the sentinel lymph node that will be removed for biopsy during surgery. The surgery will require a recovery period at home for approximately 6-8 weeks, where family and friends will be arriving in shifts to help her. In addition to your thoughts, prayers and sending healing energy there are some tangible ways to support Holly (and her caregivers) during the recovery journey. Please visit the Wishlist section of this page to purchase a gift card that will assist with meals and transportation to doctors appointments. This page will also be used to provide updates on Holly's progress during recovery, and to let you know when she is open to receiving text messages, phone calls, visitors and any new requests for support. Thank you for being a wonderful, kind and generous friend!
