Wrist Surgery

Sacramento, CA

Story

As many of you know, In August while dining out, I tripped and fell. I took two hits to my head (front and back) banged up my knees and fractured my right elbow. A couple weeks later my wrist began hurting and x-rays showed a gap between the scaphoid and lunate bones, which indicates a torn ligament - https://www.johnericksonmd.com/patient-information/scapholunate-ligament-injury/. Due to the severity of this gap, the only option is surgery. The procedure the surgeon will be performing is called 'Proximal row carpectomy', also known as “three bone excision,” which is designed to reduce pain by removing the arthritic bones in the wrist, specifically the scaphoid, lunate, and triquetrum bones. This surgery allows the remaining non-arthritic bones to serve as the new wrist joint. Yay! Unfortunately, recovery time is 4-6 weeks and then healing can be 4 - 8 months to a year. My surgery is scheduled for Friday, October 11th at Sutter Medical Center in mid-town. I will need help with day to day stuff like walking Samson, meals, driving to appointments, washing dishes, groceries, etc. The first 72 hours I'd appreciate people stopping by to check-in on me and visit. Pain will be the worst in the initial days and will hopefully subside after that. I have a comfy guest bed and anyone is welcome to come and stay for the night. I will update the page as it gets closer and after my Pre-Op on 10/7 when I have more details.
