Story
March 19 I had a tumor removed from my left ring finger. Mosaic was concerned with some of the tests that came back so they sent the tumor off to Mayo Clinic. April 11 I got a phone call from the plastic surgeon to let me know the results. Cancer………. myxoinflamatory fibroblastic sarcoma. April 24 I had an appointment at the KU Sarcoma center. This type of sarcoma is malignant. It starts in the digits and can travel to the lungs. Soon I will have a CT to see if the cancer has spread. As long as the scan is clear I should not need chemo or radiation. Since large margins are needed to make sure all the cancer is gone the entire finger must be amputated. Surgery is scheduled for May 5. I will have to have regular checkups for the next 10 years to monitor my lungs and check for more tumors. I feel KU is the place to be. The doctor said sarcomas make up only 1% of cancers so they are very rare. He basically said there is no cause. One cell just decides to grow and away it goes. What an exhausting few weeks. But I cannot say it enough. GOD IS GOOD. I am so grateful to have Him in my life along with supportive family and friends. I wanted to share with you my “anthem” through this experience. I hope you have our faithful God in your heart and believe in His promises. If you don’t and you want to know how, reach out! It will be the best thing you ever did.
Special Notes
Kristin and Kevin could use some help with meals as she recuperates from her surgery. I am thinking that freezer meals delivered ahead of time (store bought or homemade) would be good and hot meals delivered around 5 or 6 in the evening would be wonderful. They are not picky and enjoy a variety of foods. No dietary restrictions. A few minutes of encouragement would also be nice if you have time. Save the extended visits for later please. They like Mexican, Italian, casseroles, beef, chicken, pork, salads, etc. We can start with surgery day May 5th - please bring a frozen meal the 3rd or 4th so they can have it on hand when they get home from Kansas City. Otherwise, it will probably be just the two of them unless the boys drop in.
