Courtney McCormick's Brain Cancer Journey

Waukesha, WI

Story

Hello Friends and Family, We have some unfortunate news to share. It has been a long and stressful week but we are finally in a spot where we have our feet underneath us and can bring you all up to speed. Courtney has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and needs surgery to remove it. We'll tell you right away we aren't sure if it's benign or malignant and won't know until after surgery which will occur in the next month. We're meeting with surgeons at Froedtert and UW Health and will send an update once we have a date.  How We Found Out: On Thursday 5/9, Courtney went to her first workout class since Sophie was born. In the last 5 minutes of the class, she had a seizure and was taken to the hospital. A CT and subsequent MRI scans confirmed a tumor in the left side of her brain responsible for motor control and movement of the right side of her body. We have been told to expect complications and likely PT/OT after surgery to regain control of her muscle movements. What's Next: Over the last week we have spent a lot of time working through some of the early steps of finding the right doctor and seeking multiple opinions on next steps. We have talked to some of the best neurosurgeons in the state. Their opinions are very aligned and we continue to receive more good news than bad given the circumstances. We are cautiously optimistic about the future and Courtney's ability to recover.  We are at the front end of a long journey. This tumor picked the wrong girl to mess with; so Courtney is going to show this thing who's boss. Any and all positive vibes are encouraged. Feel free to reach out to either of us for now. Look for our next update when we make a decision on surgery.  All our love, Bill and Courtney McCormick
