Story

Hello friends! As I recently shared I’m scheduled for surgery to have a total hysterectomy on October 23rd. I will be staying in the hospital the first night so we shouldn’t need much help until after I come home. The story behind WHY I’m having a total hysterectomy is this: Last year I had some abnormal cells on my Pap smear so they did a colposcopy and took a biopsy of my cervix. There were still some abnormal cells but low grade enough that the doctor wasn’t very concerned and just said we’d keep an eye on it and have a Pap smear the following year rather than in 3 years. So, this year I went in and still had abnormal cells on the Pap smear so we did ANOTHER colposcopy and biopsy. This time the cells had progressed enough that the doctor felt a LEEP procedure would be in my best interest. This is where they basically take a chunk of your cervix out. Fun, right? Well, when I went in for my recheck after recovery the doctor went over the pathology report from the LEEP procedure. On the margins they were seeing even more progressed cells (CIN 2-3) the doctor and I discussed my options: 1.) repeat a colposcopy/biopsy in 6 months 2.) another LEEP 3.) a total hysterectomy. My doctor didn’t feel a second LEEP would be the best idea since she did take a fair amount and didn’t feel there was much left to on the anterior aspect to take much more and could make further treatments more difficult. I didn’t want to repeat a colposcopy in 6 months because they’re uncomfortable and from the previous ones either the more progressed cells weren’t detected on a biopsy sample OR the cells are progressing quickly. So, it left me with a total hysterectomy. It’s a big surgery and healing is a long journey but I would also much rather err on the side of caution and not end up with cancer if I can help it. So, here we are…recovery takes 4-6 weeks and I know that both Josh and I would be very appreciative of any help/support we can get with making meals for the family, especially once Josh has to go back to work (he is taking some vacation time to support me during the beginning of my healing) but can’t take the entire time off. Plus it’s leaving all the household chores/ child pick up/drop off, grocery shopping etc up to him. We appreciate anything anyone is able and willing to help us with! Thank you in advance!!

Special Notes

Evan has a peanut allergy so we avoid those-chick fil a is still safe as the peanut oil they use for cooking is refined enough that it doesn’t affect him. Also, I’m happy to have visitors so long as you check I’m feeling up for it. I have no idea how I’ll be feeling but once I’m not as sore I’m sure I’d love some company to pass the time! If you’d like to drop food off without contact we are ok with that too, you can simply leave it on the front porch and text either myself or Josh that you have done so! :) We truly appreciate any help anyone is able to provide and are so grateful for such wonderful friends and family! ❤️
