CommunityHealth Clinic Meals for Staff

Chicago, IL

Story

CommunityHealth is the largest free health clinic in the U.S. Located on the west side of Chicago, CommunityHealthand serves only low-income, uninsured individuals – most of whom are at high risk because of diabetes, heart disease, asthma, or age. While many other clinics serving this population have closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they remain open and focused on keeping these individuals out of hospital emergency rooms by caring for non-COVID-related conditions and providing COVID testing to those who need it. Meanwhile, as many people in Chicago are losing their jobs and health insurance, they continue to register new patients and become a medical home to many more. At CommunityHealth, in addition to primary care and testing, they also provide specialty care (cardiology, gynecology, etc.), mental health and social services, classes, and more to ensure patients can get and stay healthy. They offer all services in three languages to support a large immigrant patient base. In addition to all regular services, CommunityHealth is expanding its services during this difficult time to also provide food and hygiene products to patients for whom shelter-in-place is a matter of safety but who are also struggling to care for their families when they cannot work due to business closures and COVID risk. This meal sign-up is to support the doctors, nurses, pharmacists, front desk team, and other key staff who are putting themselves at risk every day to care for this extremely vulnerable population. The staff at CommunityHealth sends this thank you message- "We are so grateful to our community for supporting this critical need in the heart of Chicago." This is also a chance to support our local restaurants and delivery drivers. STAY HOME AND HEALTHY. Also, please keep your receipts and check with your accountants/tax preparers to find out if you can utilize this as a tax deductible donation. We are doing our part by staying home, but this is one small thing we can do as a community to mobilize behind those that must go to work to help our communities!
