Blessings for the Spains Prepping food for someone with food allergies can be stressful so listed below you’ll find ingredients to avoid as well as particular favourites. I hope it’s helpful to provide as many specific details as possible. This is in NO way a reflection of Jerrie or her preferences - she is the LEAST high maintenance person I know and hates to be a bother.
Special Notes
Ingredients to avoid due to allergies: * Anything containing “yeast” (Most prepackaged items such as soups, seasoning packets, and sauces contain added sugar and/or yeast, which she CANNOT have.) * Added sugar (sugar, brown sugar, invert sugar, corn syrup, corn syrup solids, powdered sugar, superfine sugar, etc.) * Artificial sweeteners or sugar substitutes (Aspartame, Saccharin, Sucralose, Xylitol, Sorbitol, Stevia, Maltitol, etc.) * Items labeled “sugar-free” as they often contain artificial sweeteners * Bread/bread crumbs (this includes rolls, most frozen breads, and all prepackaged cornbread mixes such as Jiffy bread) * Crackers and/or cracker crumbs (she CAN have plain CARR Table Water Crackers in the black box) * Bacon or ham containing added sugar (check ingredient list) * Black pepper * Cloves * Nutmeg * Rosemary * Lavender * Red onion * Mushrooms (contained in some stocks, etc) * Anything containing fermented and/or aged ingredients such as: * Red or white wine * Red or white wine vinegar (often found in dressings or marinated items such as olives/pickles - sometimes pasta sauces) * Balsamic vinegar * Soy sauce * Bananas, mangoes, pineapple, kiwi, oranges, grapefruit (lemon is ok!) * Pre-made sauces/soups * Seasoning packets such as ranch, etc. * Highly acidic or overly spicy meals * Prepackaged foods such as ramen noodles, salad dressings, seasoning packets, sauces, Bisquick, etc. ***Don’t worry about checking Nutrition Facts on packages, but rather the actual ingredient list. Least Favorite Foods: Asian foods, “sweet” things such as orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, lemon pepper seasoning, fish (other than salmon), bell peppers, jalapeños 🩵🩵🩵 Jerrie loves buttermilk cornbread and homemade biscuits (no added sugar). They use one of the self-rising buttermilk cornmeal mixes found with the flour to make our cornbread - Martha White, White Lily, or Pearl Milling Company. She also loves: baked or grilled meat, vegetables of all kinds, pasta, Italian, and Mexican. Veggie Ideas: * Steamed - broccoli, carrots, etc * Grilled or roasted- potatoes, sweet potatoes, zucchini, asparagus, carrots, leeks, root veggies (such as beets, parsnips, turnips, etc), Brussels sprouts * Squash * Greens (turnip, mustard, collard, etc) * Green beans * Okra * Black eyed peas, Pink eye purple hull peas, field peas * Any kind of bean * Onions and/or garlic are a hit! * Salads are great!
