Love for Laura

Huntington, WV

Story

After having her wisdom teeth removed, Laura discovered she had a genetic mutation known as a Chiari Malformation. With a Chiari malformation the cerebellum, a part of the brain that sits at the base of the skull and is responsible for movement and speech, can shift and move down the spinal cord. This movement leads to blockage of cerebral spinal fluid which can ultimately lead to cell death. Since her diagnosis, Laura has had significant movement of her cerebellum over the last few months, leading to increased symptoms. The Chiari decompression surgery will help to restore the flow of cerebral fluid and help to alleviate further symptoms. The recovery process is slow taking 6-8 weeks and there are limits on lifting and driving, not to mention pain and nausea. All of which are difficult with two kids! Any help or support is welcomed and deeply appreciated!
