Bear Hugs for Matt

Madison, WI

Story

We are grateful to share that as of May 30, Matt has been officially listed on the UNOS lung transplant list at University Hospital. Thank you to everyone who has prayed, supported, and stood by Matt’s side. Now, we continue praying for Matt’s strength and viable lungs from a donor—along with strength, peace, and comfort for the individual and family whose generosity and loss make this gift of life possible. 🙏 "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Matt’s Journey: May 28 Summary Just days after the loss of our mom in December 2024, Matt was hospitalized with severe throat pain. While initially diagnosed with acid reflux, further imaging revealed concerning spots on his lungs. Follow-up tests confirmed Pulmonary Fibrosis, the same disease that took both our mom and oldest brother, Dan. Genetic testing in February revealed that Matt, like them, carries a TERT gene mutation—linked to Pulmonary Fibrosis, bone marrow failure syndromes, and certain cancers. Matt’s diagnosis now includes Pulmonary Fibrosis and early-stage bone marrow cancer. His lung function is rapidly declining, and he is currently on continuous oxygen. The only path forward is a double-lung transplant.
