Love for Gina and Nate Whitelock

Warren, OH

Story

Three years ago, Gina was diagnosed with a rare and terminal disease known as Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. At the time of her diagnosis her heart was nearly 4 times larger than normal and she was in serious danger; Due to the skilled care of some of the best specialists in the country, that disease is mostly under control, even though it can’t be cured and the treatments mean that she must be on constant IV medication, oxygen, dietary restrictions, and regular medical care to keep on top of the progression of the disease as possible. In spite of this excellent care, however, she has had many medical issues that are caused, or at least complicated, by the presence of her disease. She lives in constant pain, some of which is caused by the medication that’s saving her life; most recently, she has had issues with her gall bladder, liver, and spleen, and issues with internal bleeding due to a lack of platelets and red and white blood cells. These recent issues have taken a toll on her, and led to two extended hospital stays in June and July, over an hour from home, one of which involved a life-flight. While a final diagnosis has yet to be reached, her doctors are suspected an unrelated auto-immune disease, on top of her PH. In the face of her trials, she continues to try her best every day to be a loving wife and mother; while she knows what the truth of her medical condition means, she also knows that God alone is in control and holds her, and her family, in his capable hands. Last year she had the same words written on her arm, that have been on her heart since her diagnosis: “I will finish my race with joy – Acts 20:24”
