Matt and Shobi

Onalaska, WI

Story

We’ve set this site up to provide Shobi and Matt meals for a few weeks while Matt transitions home and to recovery.  Please text or email Shobi to coordinate drop off times. See full story below.  Thank you for helping! Hi again family and friends - As most of you know, Matt was in a four-wheeler accident on Saturday evening. He is currently at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse. Due to Covid-19, he is unable to accept visitors. My understanding of the event; Matt and a group of others were riding 4-wheeler and the rider directly in front Matt started a quick descent down a steep hill and breaked abruptly. This lead Matt to break and at the same time, while starting to descend down the hill, his 4-wheeler hit a bump. This caused a loss of control and Matt was thrown off the quad and tumbled down a hill. The 4-wheeler followed and bounced off of his lower back. We are very lucky Matt is still with is without more severe injuries. Originally we were told he broke his pelvis. After further review, they determined it was his sacrum along with damage to some tendons that holds the pelvis together. He had surgery this morning where the surgeon placed a long screw through the sacrum and placed a small metal plate, connected by 6 screws to the front of his pelvis. Matt was scheduled for surgery at 7AM this morning. The actual procedure started at 8:15AM and finished around 10:45am. The surgeon said everything went as planned. They anticipate the hardware remaining inside of his body but in rare circumstances, they may need to remove the metal, depending on the healing process. The surgeon said he sees similar injuries from bull riding. The road to recovery will be long - a minimum of 8 weeks, non-weight bearing on his left leg, and then a good 3 months of limited mobility. We currently anticipate a rather full recovery within 6 months. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers <3
